The Process:
Each colourway is developed, tested and dyed by me using the kettle dyeing method. This happens in my kitchen, usually late at night, with the kettle boiling, music playing, and me, surrounded by my yarns, my vintage teacup collection, and usually a good book to read between batches.
The skeins are dyed, rinsed in eucalyptus wool wash, and air dried, before being coiled upon themselves, packaged, and pronounced ready for sale.
This is a loving, considered task for me to perform; I love seeing the yarn come out of the pot, transformed into something new; ready to be knitted into a garment or a pair of socks to keep the wearer warm in times to come.
Making things by hand is a meditative task for me - I feel connected to the women who came before me, who hand crafted things out of necessity and frugality, who lovingly constructed useful and beautiful things for their homes and families. These craftspeople left a legacy for the future; the work of their hands lives on, and it is my hope to leave such a legacy myself. I create yarns for unknown makers, but the colourways are named after my favourite women throughout history - women who have shown flair, colour and determination.
